Very often we rise and fall on the 3F's in our young life: Right Fight, Right Friends and Right F(ph)one. Getting these sorted is key if you're going to breakthrough.
Having good engines is important, but having fuel to power the engines, just as much! Too often we end up running (our lives) on empty. What we think will get us to our destination doesn't. This is where healing, serving, teamwork and discipleship comes in.
Having fuel is one thing, but burning it on the right track is another. You need a map to break out / through, which includes leading yourself, setting good goals and having the life skills.
Having the map to the destination is one thing, but actually following the map is another: having a mentor, managing your time and money, and acquiring new skills is what's needed here.
Reaching your destination obviously requires a safe landing, and for this knowledge and experience plays an indispensable part in the process.
The Strive 2 Thrive programme is built upon 6 key virtues or values. Without these 3 P's & 3 H's (or at least the will to acquire them) you won't get very far...
Participation 4. Honest
Punctual 5. Humble
Prepared 6. Hungry
Too often we end up running (our lives) on empty. What we think will get us to our destination doesn't. This is where healing, serving & discipleship come in, aka Godfluence. Of course we're all heard of influence, long for it, and revere those who have it. Godfluence is different. Instead of seeking man's recognition & glory, it seeks God's grace, wisdom and maturity.
In a nutshell, because it works! Time and again mentorship has proven to be the 'missing link' in helping young / inexperienced people 'bridge the gap', and change their life destination. Encouragement, direction, self-belief, accountability, networks and wisdom, are just some of the benefits obtained through mentorship. If you don't believe us, just find someone with a good mentor, and they'll tell you!
Essentially, mentorship is about allowing someone into the personal places in your world where you could use some help. The more honest and vulnerable one is as a mentee, the more opportunity we give our mentor to help us. And this is where the 3P's & 3H's come in again, to help us grow up and obtain maturity, by becoming dependent on God, inter-dependent on friends and family, independent of state and family, and thriving and mentoring others.
